Clinical Study of the Effect of the Sofratulle in topical therapy

Abstract
Local wound care in the cutaneous injury and burn has been the a long .standing problem. With the advent of the antiseptics over a hundred years ago, agents like phenols, picric acid, mercurials, 10% silver nitrate and the like have all been tried without much satisfaction. Antibiotics, parenterally administered, still do not seem to solve the problem of the infection altogether. And, especially, the current trend in the burn treatments is back to topical anti-bacterial therapy.
The parenteral antibotics are useful in the control of infection in the the early posburn course, during the pre- and post- grafting periods, and in times of the septicemia.
Otherwise, systemically-given antibiotics have not satisfactorily cut down the abundant growth of the organisms in the burn wound itself. Thus we see the return to topical approach so as to prevent overwhelming infection and, to improve burn wound healings
Until recently, topical therapy had fallen into disrepute because of the toxic reactions and failure to improve infections.
For years, fine-mesh gauze soaked with nitro-furazone has been the main dressing material for burn cases in our ¢¥hospital.
But, recently, we using Sofra-tulle which is a lanolin-paraffin gauze dressing impregnated -with 1% Framycetin
This product has been made available to our hospital and this paper serves as a report on our aerly experiences with it.
